WE’RE ONLY NINE days into 2018 and we’ve already witnessed two gas occurrences on RTÉ News.
The first was last Wednesday when Teresa Mannion’s report was interrupted by some Mad Tom in Galway who unsuccessfully attempted to wave an American flag in windy conditions and ended up getting wrapped in the flag.
Then last night, viewers had another pleasant surprise when it looked like the RTÉ employee who was operating the green screen decided to watch a film.
Sharon introduced Washington correspondent Brian O’Donovan, who was all set to discuss Oprah’s speech at the Golden Globes. Immediately, due to some error, the Washington backdrop went black.
Then somehow, it managed to switch to somebody browsing the movie selection on the iTunes Movie store.
When RTÉ News ends do all of the newsreaders snuggle up and watch a film on the big telly in the newsroom? Were they too eager to get the film started last night? There’s simply no other explanation for this.
